2016 Cardboard City - Homeless Awareness
2016 Cardboard City - Homeless Awareness

ROOF members and community volunteers will be participating in a Cardboard City to raise awareness and support for the homeless programs and participants in Somerset County.  Volunteers will be faced with the reality of sleeping in a cardboard box for one night in inclement weather.  Join us at St. Paul's UCC Church for an eye opening experience!

When: June 17, 2016; 6:00PM - 6:00AM
Where: St. Paul's UCC Church, 202 West Union Street, Somerset, PA 15501
All participants will be issued a cardboard box donated by Lowes & Sears.  Participants are allowed to bring the following items:
Sleeping Bag/Blankets
Extra Clothes
** All participants will be asked to leave their phone inside the church throughout the night.  Each participant will be given a care package at the beginning of their participation.  No one will be allowed to order food, bring computers, phones, etc..  The goal is to keep the simulation as real as possible. **

One Day Training & Workshop
The goal is to incorporate front line staff, management and key personnel to work on conflict resolution, communication, mindfulness, integration and wellness practices into our daily work.

Roofs Over our Families (ROOF) is pleased to host the 2016 Somerset County Professional Retreat.  This exciting event offers a unique itinerary focused on creating a healthy environment for our professionals to build self-awareness, growth and networking opportunities.  Innovative workshops will be offered throughout the day to enhance our staff's knowledge of wellness practices and integrative symptom management.  Retreat guests will get to engage in team building exercises that focus on open communication and skill-building strategies.  With the rising caseloads, increasing demand and complex cases, it is important for staff to take a day away from the daily stresses to focus on goal achievement, leadership, self-awareness, wellness and much more!

Outreach Project
Outreach Project

The Employment and Training Department is starting a new Community Service Project/Outreach Project. We will be making Fresh Start boxes. Fresh Start boxes will be given to those in need of some positivity. When a participant is going through a rough spot and are making positive changes to work towards the life they want, they will be given one of these boxes. For this project to be a success we need help. 


We are asking for assistance with donations of the following items:


  • Shoe boxes

  • Kids books

  • Toiletries

  • Kids toys

  • Scarves

  • Jewelry

  • Arts and Crafts Items

  • Photo Albums/Picture Frames

  • Misc. Items that could brighten someones day

On Tuesday afternoon, July 7, 2015, there was a water line break at our main office location, 535 East Main Street.

However, all services will be available starting on Monday, July 13, 2015.
Please excuse us while we are cleaning up the damage and re-constructing our office space.

ALERT: Tableland Services Main Office Partial Closure - 7/10/2015

On Tuesday afternoon, July 7, there was a water line break at our main office location, 535 East Main Street.
Our main office building will be partially closed on Friday, July 10.  Clean-up crews will still be in place during our normal business hours.
The following services will not be available at our main office location:
  • Fingerprinting
  • Housing
  • Early Childhood Education
The Somerset County Transportation System, PA Career Link, Employment & Training, Weatherization, and the Family Center will still function on Friday, July 10.

2015 Outstanding Advocacy Award
2015 Outstanding Advocacy Award

This award recognizes an individual or organization for exceptional advocacy and leadership efforts on behalf of anti-poverty and community development programs.  Advocacy efforts should directly impact policy, regulation, or legislative agendas that complement Community Action's mission and goals.

Lisa Troha is this year's Outstanding Advocacy Award Recipient.

Ms. Troha has been the Directory of Community Services for the Community Action Partnership for Somerset County since 2007.  She has been an exceptional advocate for those in poverty, and she has instituted and managed countless programs to assist the clients served.  During her tenure, she has brought new housing programs, weatherization services, employment and training programs, clothing programs, and volunteer opportunities to the Community Action Partnership for Somerset County.

In addition to the 2015 Outstanding Advocacy Award, Lisa has been recognized and received citations from Pennsylvania local and state representatives for her advocacy of low-income Pennsylvanians.
